4.6.18. 30 Days Wild #4 Iogi bear Necessities

(ENGLISH FOLLOWS)

Dwi’n trial peidio ymyrryd yn ormodol gyda’r anifeiliaid o’n cwmpas pan yn gweithio yn yr ardd. Yn yr haf, morgrug sy’n tynnu’r sylw wrth godi cerrig, codi concrit neu unrhyw waith sy’n symud darn sefydlog o dir. Dwi’n plastro ac yn gorffen wal gerrig ar hyn o bryd. Mi roedd y morgrug yn fusneslyd iawn ac yn dilyn fi i bobman. Mi roedd y scouts yn asesu pob darn newydd o goncrit rhag ofn bod dihangfa neu lwybr pwysig yn diflannu am byth. Creadur mor fach sy’n rhannu yr un biomas ar y blaned â’r homo sapiens. Am bob un ohonom ni, mae 1.5 miliwn o forgrug. 1.5 miliwn! Felly (ar gyfartaledd!), mae 4.5e12 ohonyn nhw yng Nghymru!! Pam nad yw anifeiliaid Cymru yn rhan o gyfrifiad cyson Cymru?!

There are 3 ants in this picture. The iPhone camera didn’t quite cut it on this occasion. It looks as if they’re on their own alien planet, but the truth is that we’re the aliens. They were here with the dinosaurs and started farming a long time before us.

So today was a day of bare necessities!

“When you look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at the fancy ants
Then maybe try a few”                                                                                                                   (But I’m still vegetarian so far!)

Ants fascinate me. Their societies always appear far more effective, engaging, driven and  purposeful than ours.

And on top of that, they share the same biomass as Homo sapiens on planet earth. For everyone of us, there are around 1.5 million ants. At that hypothetical ratio, there are 4.5e12 (4,500,000,000,000) Welsh ants. Is that why don’t we include the full animal profile in a regular census?
